A collection of remnants from pre 90's Eastern Europe is in the center of Tirana.This installation was designed by Fatos Lubonja and Ardian Isufi, and is entitled ‘Post-bllok” (Checkpoint). It consists of a bunker that once guarded the site as well as mine shaft columns from Spac prison, and a segment of the Berlin Wall. Lubonja is a critic and novelist who served 17 years in prison before 1991. Isufi is an established artist who has exhibited internationally and has twice been awarded Onufri prizes.
This castle was built in the village with the same name which is about 6 km from Vlorë. The castle rises on the side of the Shushica Mountain, about 380 meters above the sea level. The castle was built on the site of an ancient settlement, one of the oldest in the Vlora region. The castle is believed to have been erected in the 3rd century B.C. In the 4th century B.C. the castle was transformed into a fortress town. In the 6th century A.D. the castle was reconstructed by Justinian I. The castle was the center of the Principality of Valona in the 14th century.
The people’s Painter Vangjush Miho was born in 1891 in Korça. He entered in the School of Fine Arts of Bucharest in painting branch in 1915 and he graduated from his school in 1919. Later he entered in the Institute of Fine Arts in Rome an institute in the academic tradition. In 1924 he got a scholarship from the state and he went to Rome again, where he sat his last exams for the diploma of painter and restorer of paintings.
